Holiday Itinerary

Whatever your level; choosing to combine Spanish lessons in Sosua, situated in the Dominican Republic on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, with windsurfing lessons is the best way to accelerate your learning experience.

You will be taught by highly qualified native Spanish speakers who have a passion for teaching and use proven teaching techniques.

In the morning, you will head down to the language school for your Spanish classes. Then, in the afternoon, you will hop over to Cabarete, known as one of the best windsurfing locales in the world, and be taught windsurfing by highly qualified, multi-lingual instructors.

Immerse yourself in the local culture and progress rapidly by practising your new found language and windsurfing skills in your free time. Take home two new skills that will stay with you long after your trip is over.

Who is this suitable for?
- Suitable for all Spanish language levels from complete beginners to advanced
- Windsurfing lessons are suitable for all levels, however, you must be able to swim and please note that windsurfing can be physically demanding at times (if you can't swim, please notify us before as we would be able to arrange special instructors to assist you)
- Minimum age 16

Who are our guests?
- People come from all over the world and you’ll meet a mix of language speakers so that you use the language you are learning rather than resorting to chatting in English
- Ages vary, but the typical language learner falls into the 20-60 age bracket though we have no age limit;  we’ve had guests in their 70s, 80s even 90s studying languages with us
- During the summer and in university holiday times the average age typically drops and there are many guests in their 20s
- Over 90% of our language learners travel solo and every school organises social and cultural activities to help you get to know others at the school outside of class
- Of course, everyone shares a passion or interest in discovering a new language and culture

When can I start?
- The school is open year round
- Spanish and Windsurfing courses regularly start on Mondays and finish on Fridays
- Please note that the schedule for windsurfing will depend on wind & wind conditions
- Longer durations are available so if you would like to stay longer, please contact us on +44 (0)208 144 5990 or email hello@golearnto.com

Class schedule
- Spanish classes run daily Monday through Friday each week
- Classes are usually from 9am - 12:30pm
- You will have 4 group classes per day lasting 45 minutes each
- There will be a short break between classes
- Windsurfing for beginners will usually be scheduled in the morning, for advanced windsurfers in the afternoon
- Lessons will only have 1 or 2 students per instructor
- Windsurfing lessons are 3 times a week, for 1 hour each; schedules will be arranged on arrival

Important information: windsurf school location
- Windsurf lessons will take place in the nearby town of Cabarete, a surfer’s paradise
- Many students travel to and from Cabarete to Sosua each day via public transport
- Windsurfers have their spot at Cabarete Bay and the kite-surfers next to the bay at the Cabarete Kite Beach but it is also popular for those who like to explore the beach bars and restaurants
- Public transportation, minivans or so called guaguas as well as shared taxis, must be used to reach the dance lessons in Cabarete and cost about 1 USD per way on the route Sosua/Cabarete, taking 20 minutes
- This mode of transport sometimes needs a certain number of passengers before departing and once the vehicle is en route, passengers can stop it wherever they want to get on or off - this can sometimes mean that the journey takes longer than 20 minutes
- For most travellers, this is an authentic local experience and one of the ways to immerse themselves into the Dominican culture and Dominican way of life

What will I learn?
- The grammatical basis of the language, Castellano, is taught, as well as the linguistic differences between the Spanish spoken in Latin-America and in Spain
- The language school focuses greatly on providing students with the opportunity to practice speaking so lessons will be fun and interactive
- You’ll focus on the four main language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing
- In the windsurfing lessons, you will learn theoretical and practical knowledge according to your level
- The priorities during the windsurfing courses are individual care, your safety and, of course, fun

What can I do in my free time?
- The school offers about 3 different excursions/activities throughout the week, usually culture, sports and watersports related due to the location of Sosua
- You will have plenty of free time to explore the local area and practice your newfound language skills, kick back and relax in your beautiful surroundings, or explore the lively coastal town nightlife

Level test
- When you enrol in a course, you will be emailed a language assessment test for you to complete so you can be placed in the correct level - this should be done two weeks prior to your arrival
- This test will assess your understanding of the language and will help the course organisers to place you in the right group class for your level

Other information
- We recommend you bring a small dictionary with you or use online dictionaries on your smartphone / tablet by logging in for free on the school's WiFi
